What’s Happening in Brazeau This February

The Brazeau Parks Council recently released a program with all the upcoming events in the county, and both locals and visitors can look forward to a whole variety of exciting events.

The Fire & Ice Show

This year the Fire & Ice Show takes place on the 17th and 18th of February, and the great family event starts from 4:00 pm at the park just east from the town office of Drayton Valley. All along 52 St., the entertainment will include music, skating and attendees will also get to enjoy the Indigo Circus Ice Queen as well as the Fire Show. Adults and children can enjoy free hamburgers and hotdogs while events on the 18th of February include a free snowshoe walk by the Eagle Point Staff. Hungry travellers can enjoy treats include hot cocoa in Eagle Point Provincial Park on the Rotary Pembina Trails.

Alberta Cup – World Class Nordic Ski Racing

Two dates most important to sports enthusiasts are the 16th and 17th of February when the Alberta Cup World Class Nordic ski tracing takes place. This year the racing is in Drayton Valley, and the athletes compete in round five and round seven of the Alberta Cup. The seventh round is on the Pembina Nordic Trails which is in the Eagle Point Provincial Park. This year the Cup is hosted by the U of A Nordic, the Pembina Nordic Club, sanctioned by Alberta Cross Country. Events include 3-person relay events, classic distance and sprint. To enjoy the action, all sports fans are invited to drive out and to watch the skiing action.

Free Courses

Mental Health First Aid courses are offered in both February and March in Breton. The course prepares participants to interact with mentally ill friends, family and the community in general.

Free Entertainment

Community Family Nights include free popcorn and free movies hosted by Breton FCSS and the Breton Golden Age Club. Free storytelling is offered at the Breton Library from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm and is hosted by the Brazeau Community Parenting Club, Breton FCSS and the Brenton Library.

Adult exercise classes are available every Wednesday morning and hosted by the Breton Golden Age Club, classes are an hour long and start from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. The classes this year focus on increasing mobility, flexibility as well as strength gaining, toning and balance. Participants can participate in sitting or standing, and the instructor is Cassie Kriel, while the cost is $1 per class.

Pink Shirt Day – 27th of February 2019

This year the Pink Shirt Day takes place on the 27th of February, and everyone is encouraged to wear pink on the day to symbolise their support for no bullying in schools and the community.
